Hosting an Event

Parking options for groups hosting an event on campus.

Parking Information

Organizations holding an event on-campus and looking to provide a parking option for their visitors can explore the options listed below. Each option provides a solution that is suited for different types of events and have various location options. Use the Visitor & Event Parking Request Form which is located below the parking solutions at least five business days ahead of your event to ensure the easiest experience for your visitors.

Validate Parking

These options are ideal for VIP’s attending public events, one-day events, or one-off department visitors.

Note: Validation Coupons and HONK Promo Codes will NOT guarantee access to a given parking facility when that visitor option has reached capacity. Instead, please see “Event Permits.”

Validation Coupons

To validate parking in gated parking decks, physical coupons can be distributed by the host to their visitors. Dollar amount or all-day validations coupons are available. Coupons will be designed with the host or event name as well as brief usage instructions. To use the coupon, the visitor first scans the ticket they pulled to enter the deck, followed by the coupon, at the exit gate.

The rate per coupon is equivalent to the dollar amount the coupon is designed to validate. You may pre-pay for your coupons to keep on hand or be billed on usage after an event.

Valid Locations:

  • East Deck
  • HUB Deck
  • Nittany Deck
  • West Deck

HONK Promo Codes

To validate parking in surface lots with public HONK zones, a promo code can be distributed by the host to their visitors. Dollar amounts or all-day options are available. To use the promo code, the parker arrives in the lot, parks, and scans a QR code with their mobile phone’s camera to launch the HONK website. The parker adds their license plate number, chooses the rate equivalent to the duration of their visit, and applies your promo code. No app or account is required.

The rate per use is equivalent to the dollar amount selected by the parker ($1/hour +$0.35 transaction fee.) Penn State Departments may keep a cost center or IO on file with Transportation Services to be billed monthly and keep their promo code active for an entire fiscal year. Otherwise, hosts can be billed on usage after an event. Invoices are provided reflecting the number of uses and the dollar amount validated.

Event Permits

This option is ideal for private or multi-day events.

Note: Virtual Conference Permits WILL guarantee access to a given parking facility when that visitor option has reached capacity.

Virtual Conference Permits

Transportation Services provides the host with an event-specific permit link with brief instructions to email visitors. Once they arrive at the Parking Portal, they add their license plate number and download the permit.

The host is billed a flat permit rate based on usage post-event. The permit will appear as $0 to the customer in the permit link. Alternatively, the fees can be made the responsibility of the visitors. The amount due will be reflected in the permit link and payment is required at check out.
